Position Overview: The Tax Consultant delivers high-quality, value added tax services to Compeer Financial clients. With an understanding of tax planning and preparation services for clients, the successful candidate partners with the department to deliver tax and accounting products and services. Incumbent builds relationships with clients to the extent the client regards the team member as a trusted resource, providing tax and accounting knowledge and services allowing the client to manage his/her business efficiently and effectively. Markets services to clients and prospective clients, based upon need. The incumbent assesses short and long term client needs, determines appropriate product/service solutions, and lead the delivery efforts to exceed client expectations.
Perform tax estimates, prepare and sign all necessary local, state, and federal income tax returns in a timely manner and in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code requirements and Compeer policies and procedures.
Maintain assigned portfolio of clients, focused on providing high quality customer service and retention. Generate revenue according to company standards.
Bill for services performed, monitor payments and follow-up/collect payments from delinquent accounts.
Conduct tax research through Checkpoint and convey information to internal and external clients.
Conduct client meetings and identify value-added opportunities for clients.
Serve as a resource in all aspects of tax planning and preparing, including products and services of Compeer Financial. Provide answers and expertise related to tax and accounting to clients and peers.
Progressively develop and maintain a technical competency and technological effectiveness in tax planning and preparation to meet client’s needs.
Education and Development Opportunities:
Ability to earn certification by passing the Farm Credit Services Tax Exam within two attempts.
Ability to represent Compeer Financial at variety of events, such as team relationship building, professional networking events, client education events, and/or any other company sponsored events.
Seek out and participate in opportunities for self-development of technical knowledge, business management, tax law, or interpersonal skills.
Participate in the development and presentation of ongoing educational programs regarding tax and accounting services.
Develop relationships with team members to facilitate referrals and new business.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Agriculture-Business, Business Administration, Finance or Economics or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
3-5 years related experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
Exposure and experience in preparing farm taxes is preferred, but not required.
Excellent computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
Ability to manage and organize workload for maximum efficiency and productivity.
Ability to utilize technology in a paperless environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, leaders, and clients.
Exercise a high level of ethical and professional judgment.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, problem solving, analytical, organizational and time management skills.
Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
Excellent understanding of tax and accounting products and services.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Receptive to receive feedback through peer reviews and coaching.
Available to travel to other office locations or territories to support and assist the entire team.
Ability to work extended hours, evenings and weekends from January through April in order to meet deadlines and client expectations.
