Kollath CPA, a growing Wisconsin based CPA firm, has a great opportunity for a full-time Insurance Accountant in our Middleton office. As an innovative firm, we provide proactive approach with our clients providing them guidance with their accounting and tax needs.
In this role the Insurance Accountant performs complex statutory accounting activities related to all aspects of accounting and administration for small insurance companies including, but not limited, to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations, financial statements, billing, entry of underwriting and claims data, preparing and filing regulatory forms, etc. In addition, this position will maintain general ledger accounts and develop associated managerial reports and financial statements. The work is broad in nature and can be difficult.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare and post entries to general ledger accounts and to document business transactions. 2. Performs and reviews general ledger functions for monthly activity and closings. 3. Reviews, verifies documentation, and processes claims for payment. 4. Prepares and reviews monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to general ledger. 5. Prepares and reviews bank reconciliations as well as other banking activities. 6. Detects, researches, and resolves reconciliation items proactively. 7. Analyzes and documents revenue and expenditure trends and variances in account balances between periods and against budget
8. Prepares financial report such as balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, budgets, and footnote schedules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Experience, Education, and Special Certifications) 1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. 2. Five years of relevant statutory accounting experience required, preferably with life insurance. 3. General understanding of insurance company operations is preferred. 4. Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles is required. 5. CPA designation or progress towards CPA designation preferred. 6. Proficient with computer software applications, preferably Microsoft Office Suite and automated accounting information systems required. 7. Proficient and accurate computer keyboarding skills required. 8. Ability to drive to client sites if needed.
