Hugo, Minnesota (pop. 15,833) is seeking a Finance Director interested in growing with this rapidly developing community. The City of Hugo, located approximately 17 miles northwest of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, is known for its outstanding residential neighborhoods and excellent park system. The city’s population is expected to reach 40,000 within the next 20 years.
The Finance Director position is integral to the financial management of municipal services for a growing city and for expanding the city’s infrastructure to allow for continued development. The Finance Director advises the City Administrator, City Council, and department heads on financial matters and participates in the financial planning aspects of long-term capital and other improvement programs and projects, among other responsibilities. The position reports to the City Administrator and supervises the Finance Coordinator.
The Finance Director position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and three years of progressive experience with decision making responsibility in one or more functional areas including budget administration/preparation, city assessments, and investment management. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered. Experience in municipal finance and accounting is preferred. Familiarity with municipal functions and knowledge of public finance and economic development are a plus.
The starting salary for this position is up to $137,100, depending on experience and qualifications. The City of Hugo offers competitive benefits. The position is eligible to participate in the Public Employment Retirement Association program.
